Selective solar protection
The OKATECH Insulating Glass with a metal interlayer can integrate many different designs of wire mesh, expanded metal or perforated metal sheet as a design element with variable functions. The material and the manufacturing process determine not only the aesthetics, but also the function.

  • “High sun” is almost entirely blocked; “low” sun is allowed to pass.
  • Allows for solar heating in the winter and summer thermal protection.
  • Natural light is both refracted and reflected leading to stunning changes in the illumination effects.

What effect does the "Louver" design (GKD) have in a vertical façade?
When the sun is high, the mesh screens the sun completely. Total solar energy transmittance is very low, with values of around 7-15%.
At lower elevation angles, total solar energy transmittance increases. At right angles to the glass (corresponding to an angle of elevation of 0°) OKATECH achieves the highest transmission, which is also ideal for transparency.

This means seasonal solar protection for places with widely varying angles of incidence: solar heating contributions in the winter and thermal protection in the summer.
