Ultra light weighted mirror substrates are essential components of space telescopes where the weight limit is set by the maximum allowed payload of the rocket launch. These mirror substrates need to be mechanically stiff and light weight at the same time. Light weighted mirror substrates are also of vital importance to the secondary mirrors of ground-based telescopes and solar telescopes.
