ZnS FLIR - A MATERIAL FOR THE TRANSMISSION RANGE 8 - 12 µm
Polycrystalline Zinc Sulfide (FLIR - Forward Looking Infrared) - in the following referred to as ZnS - is manufactured through applying a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. Polycrystalline ZnS is suited for both defense and industrial applications. It is available in large sizes and custom shapes and formats. These can include windows, domes or lens blanks.
Regular (FLIR) grade ZnS is a polycrystalline optical material that offers high performance in terms of fracture strength and hardness. ZnS FLIR is often used in the 8 - 12 μm region. Its resistance to rain and particle erosion coupled with its lower relative cost give ZnS FLIR an edge over ZnS CLEAR and ZnSe in many applications, such as IR windows for military systems.
