SCHOTT AMIRAN®A clear view of what counts

At a glance

Low in reflection, superb color fidelity, nearly invisible

SCHOTT AMIRAN® anti-reflective glass offers a clear view – even when there are significant differences in the brightness in front and behind the glass. It reduces reflections to only a fraction compared to conventional glass. This makes AMIRAN® anti-reflective glass the material of choice for display windows and showrooms, museums and glass cabinets, luxury box seating in stadiums and panorama restaurants, television and recording studios, façades and balustrades, lobbies and foyers. The boundaries between the outside and inside disappear. This creates the highest possible freedom of design. Canopies or other constructive measures designed to avoid reflections are no longer necessary.

Key facts

  • Sizes up to 3770 x 1770 mm (148 x 697 inches)
  • Maximum suppression of reflections on both sides
  • Just under 1% residual reflection
  • Up to 98% transmission
  • Durable, easy to clean and chemically stable
  • CE certified
  • Available in a variety of different glass types
  • Many processing options ( e.g. as tempered safety glass, laminated safety glass or as an insulated glass unit)

Technical data

Innovative technology

AMIRAN® anti-reflective glass is made possible by the sol-gel dipping process developed by SCHOTT. The glass is dipped several times in metal oxide solutions. The drying speed determines the thickness of the layer – with the highest precision.

Hard coating

The metal oxide coating is burned in at 752° to 932° Fahrenheit. Interferences between the oxide layers eliminate reflections later on. The layers are actually much more pure and more stable than conventional PVD techniques (like vapor deposition or sputtering) allow for.

Durable and easy to keep clean

This translates into excellent optical characteristics and makes AMIRAN® anti-reflective glass so incredibly durable. The coating is resistant to scratches and chemical attack. AMIRAN® anti reflective glass can be easily cleaned using commercially available glass cleaners.

Multiple applications possible

The range of applications for AMIRAN® anti-reflective glass is very diverse because of the many different processing options SCHOTT offers. AMIRAN® glass can be bent, printed on or drilled. It can be semi-tempered (annealed glass) or processed into safety glass or laminated safety glass. This results in insulated glass that is nearly free from reflections and features either thermal insulation, or protection from the sun or noise or even special solutions that meet the highest safety requirements.
