OKATECH™Insulating glass with a metal mesh interlayer | |
At a glance
Selective solar protection
OKATECH™ insulating glass with a metal mesh interlayer, integrates many different designs of wire mesh, expanded metal or perforated metal sheet as a design element with variable functions. The material and the manufacturing process determine not only the aesthetics, but also the performance. This means seasonal solar protection for places with widely varying angles of incidence: solar heating contributions in the winter and thermal protection in the summer. Outer pane, tempered glass
Cavity 2-8 mm (~1/16 to 5/16") with metal interlayer, air filling
Intermediate pane, tempered glass, coated on #4
Cavity: up to 12 mm (~1/2") without interlayer
Inner pane: Heat-strengthened laminated glass or tempered glassKey facts
- “High sun” is almost entirely blocked; “low” sun is allowed to pass.
- Allows for solar heating in the winter and summer thermal protection.
- Natural light is both refracted and reflected leading to stunning changes in the illumination effects.
- U-value between 0.18-0.21-0.27 BTU/hr/ft2/°F.
- Cavity 2-8 mm (~1/16 to 5/16") with metal interlayer, air filling
- Cavity: up to 12 mm (~1/2") without interlayer
- Inner pane: Heat-strengthened laminated glass or tempered glass

Installation
For structural safety, the dimensions of units used in roof glazings are limited by the type of glass used, glass thickness, snow load, wind load suction, and the roof slope. The installation of OKATECH™ glass should be in accordance with the rules generally applicable to insulating glass units in similar circumstances. For roof glazing applications, illustrated glazing details should be provided. Special recommendations for installation are available upon request.
Dimensions and installation
OKATECH™ insulating glass is installed like normal insulating glass. The glass bite must be 15-20 mm (~19/32 – 27/32"), depending on the type. If the height and width of the pane exceed 2 m (~78"), the minimum coverage must be at least 20 mm (~27/32"). Dimensions are limited to a maximum pane surface of 7 m2 (~75 ft2). Different dimensions and/or configurations are available upon request.
Mesh widths
Certain mesh materials have limited sheet widths. If the specified width
exceeds the width of the mesh sheet, a 23-mm wide vertical H- profile is
required to seam two sheets together. Please check mesh widths with
supplier in advance.
