SCHOTT Corporate Social Responsibility
Our Commitment for a Better Future
Linda S. Mayer, President & CEO, SCHOTT North America, Inc.
"’Corporate social responsibility’ is one of the main principles on which SCHOTT was originally established and it is specifically cited in our founding articles. When Otto Schott established the company in 1884, he made a commitment to corporate social responsibility and the fair treatment of employees, not only on the job, but also in their daily lives. Today, our commitment to those founding ideals stretches beyond our walls to our surrounding communities and to our planet." – Linda S. Mayer, President & CEO, SCHOTT North America, Inc.
SCHOTT is a multinational, technology-based group with the core goal of improving the quality of life and working conditions for people around the globe. SCHOTT’s technological and business competencies are strongly tied with the company’s unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental stewardship. For 125 years, SCHOTT has been developing and manufacturing specialized materials, components and systems that help to achieve the aforementioned goals.
SCHOTT’s corporate social responsibility policy centers on issues pertaining to employees and family, environment, science and society.

Environmental and Climate Protection
SCHOTT has been a pioneer in the international glass industry for many years in terms of environmental and climate protection. SCHOTT’s corporate social responsibility policy places its main emphasis on reducing the consumption of energy and resources as well as the emissions from glass production, and additionally aims to produce environmentally-friendly products. Examples of this are the SCHOTT Solar products and solutions for alternative energy production and CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop panels, which are produced without toxic heavy metals antimony and arsenic. This eliminates an impressive 180 tons per year of these materials which are commonly used for the manufacture of glass-ceramic and makes SCHOTT CERAN® exceptionally eco-friendly – a giant leap for protecting the environment.

Employees and Family
No company can hope to achieve success without highly motivated employees. SCHOTT values its employees and strives to bolster and sustain worker motivation. We work hard to ensure that our employees can successfully juggle the demands of work and family, and as part of our corporate social responsibility policy we also provide an extensive health-management program for our employees.
The safety of our employees is top priority at SCHOTT, and is another part of our corporate social responsibility policy. Our “Project Zero” focuses on safety and aims for all of our facilities to be 100% accident-free. We are committed to remaining well below the average accident rate in our industry. Every SCHOTT employee worldwide is charged with the responsibility to contribute towards making our “Project Zero” initiative a reality. We will not be content until we have achieved a zero-accident rate at all of our units worldwide.
