Microarray Sales and Support Manager – SCHOTT Microarray Solutions


The Job

Description of Responsibilities

• Sales Nexterion® glass microarray

substrates and accessories for custom microarrays In conjunction with the Sales Manager for Special Float Glass Products, candidate will have responsibility for selling product to customers throughout North America, with a particular emphasis on the Eastern region.
Customer base includes academic, biotech and pharmaceutical accounts, as well as molecular diagnostic companies that print custom DNA and/or protein microarrays.
In addition to servicing key accounts, responsible for aggressively acquiring new customers.

• Sales Nexterion® glass substrates for other life science applications

In conjunction with the Sales Manager for Special Float Glass Products, identify and promote Nexterion® products to North American customers for non-microarray applications, such as next generation sequencing, label free detection, microfluidic devices etc., where high quality glass and coatings are desirable.

• Sales reporting and forecasting

Monitor and report customer sales, and provide periodic forecasts on future sales, by maintaining regular dialogue with customers.

• New business development

Identify new product and application opportunities for Nexterion® products, both in microarray and non-microarray markets.
Effectively communicate new business opportunities to management and R&D team to stimulate new product development.
Research the molecular diagnostics market with a view to identifying suitable target customers and markets for Nexterion® products.

• Customer Relationship Management

Establish and build relationships with key decision makers and purchasing contacts at all levels of the customer organization, with particular emphasis on key accounts.
Communicate frequently by phone, email with customers.
Visit customers regularly.
Communicate customer needs effectively to North American and German management.
Treat all customers with dignity, respect and courtesy.
Take responsibility for making every effort to resolve communication, trust, and respect concerns and problems.

• Negotiating supply agreements

Ability to effectively negotiate supply agreements with larger customers, acting as a link between the customer and the SCHOTT legal team / business management to effectively promote the needs of the company and secure long-term supply contracts.

• Input into sales and marketing strategy

Provide important input into sales and marketing strategies developed by management in North America and Germany to address the rapidly evolving microarray and life science markets.
Provide detailed feedback on customers’ evolving requirements, monitor competition, identify market trends.

• Marketing services support – conferences and exhibitions

Responsible for managing SCHOTT participation in conferences and exhibitions, including preparing the SCHOTT booth and accompanying materials prior to the show and managing the SCHOTT presence at the shows once in progress.

• Application and technical support for Nexterion® customers

In conjunction with SCHOTT R&D in Germany, act as the primary technical support contact for North American customers.
Provide troubleshooting assistance and advice for customers working with Nexterion® products, communicating via telephone, e-mail or an on-site visit.
Obtain regular updates from R&D on new product developments, and benchmarking data supporting existing products, to effectively communicate new developments to customers.
Report any key technical developments at customers to R&D in Germany.

• Learning and growth

Constantly develop and update own knowledge of markets, business, and technology trends.
Become familiar with molecular diagnostic market and the role of SCHOTT in penetrating this market with current Nexterion® products and SCHOTT capabilities for new product developments.

• Miscellaneous

Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time, both within the Microarray Solutions group and other SCHOTT business areas represented in the Louisville, KY office.
Travels frequently (app. 50% of time) within North America. Occasional trips to Germany also necessary.

The Qualifications

- BS in Molecular Biology or related biological science

- 1-2 years minimum experience selling consumables into the molecular biology / life science market

- Strong knowledge of microarray technology and relevant markets desired (e.g. academic, biotech, pharmaceutical, molecular diagnostics etc.)

- Strong understanding of scientific applications and technology developments

- Ability to work at the highest level within customer organizations (CEO, CSO, CFO, Key PIs, Lab Directors) as well as with regular lab personnel.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Demonstrates problem solving skills and strong initiative

- Experience in managing large and small accounts

- Strong technical background including technical terms and concepts of architectural glazing

- Outstanding social skills to be able to successfully deal with a variety of customer types

- A team player
