03-25-2009, SCHOTT North America, Inc. SCHOTT Wins Vesta Award at the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Exposition Cool Door, Honored by Hearth & Home Magazine, reflects Infrared Energy Back into Fireplace, Making Outer Surfaces Safer

March 25, 2009 (Louisville, Ky.)—SCHOTT’s Home Tech business today announced that its Cool Door solution won a Vesta Award at the Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Exposition (HPB Expo) in the category of Hearth Components & Controls. The award, given by Hearth & Home magazine, recognized SCHOTT’s fireplace solution for excellence in innovation and design, because it cools the outward facing surface of the glass and thus helps prevent severe burns to children, pets and unwary adults.
SCHOTT Cool Door lowers the temperature of the glass facing the room, by creating heat-resisting barriers of ROBAX® IR glass bonded with other glass within the frame. The multiple pieces of heat resistant glass reflect radiant energy back into the fireplace, reducing the outward facing panel’s temperature by almost half, while still providing an unobstructed view of the fire.
“SCHOTT’s history of advancing glass technology over the past 125 years helped led to the development of SCHOTT Cool Door,” said Ruban Harikantha, Director of Sales & Marketing for SCHOTT ROBAX. “By refining this basic fireplace component, we are able to keep people and pets safe for their enjoyment of the fire.”
Hearth & Home Magazine presented the award to SCHOTT’s Home Tech business at an award ceremony on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the HPB Expo in Reno, Nevada.
