SCHOTT DAP Will Supply Oshkosh Corp. with Transparent Armor Systems for M-ATVs

• DiamondView® Transparent Armor System Will Help Protect Soldiers and Marines Serving in Afghanistan

August 5, 2009 (Arlington, VA) — SCHOTT DiamondView Armor Products LLC (SCHOTT DAP) today announced that it has been selected to supply transparent armor systems for Oshkosh Corporation’s $1.05 billion Department of Defense MRAP all-terrain vehicle (M-ATV) contract as well as for the additional $1.06 billion order for 1,700 additional M-ATVs. SCHOTT DAP’s armored windows will be used in a new line of Oshkosh M-ATVs designed specifically for the rugged mountains of Afghanistan.

“SCHOTT DAP is pleased to be providing Oshkosh with innovative armor solutions that will make our military forces safer in Afghanistan,” said Scott Custer, the President and CEO of SCHOTT DAP. “SCHOTT’s extensive knowledge in the field of glass-ceramics pairs well with Oshkosh’s expertise in designing and manufacturing advanced, high performance military vehicles.”

SCHOTT DAP makes transparent glass-ceramic armor that is lighter and more versatile than other commonly used armor materials. DiamondView windows will reduce lifecycle costs normally associated with windows delaminating, discoloring or peeling..

SCHOTT DAP will be ramping up operations at multiple productions sites to meet the Oshkosh requirements.

“SCHOTT DAP’s advanced armor solutions are bringing jobs and investment to Pennsylvania,” said Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA). “This is good news not only for the economy, but for the safety of our soldiers serving overseas.”

The M-ATV that Oshkosh is manufacturing for the U.S. Armed Forces is more agile than earlier MRAPS and will be more survivable and maneuverable on Afghanistan’s roads and rocky terrain. The U.S. Army hopes to start deploying the vehicles in Afghanistan by the end of the year.
