10-31-2012, SCHOTT North America SCHOTT and MORITEX offer automated needle inspection system for the medical equipment industry Improved quality assurance for special geometrically shaped needle points Mainz (Germany) and Tokyo (Japan), October 31, 2012 – SCHOTT and MORITEX will be introducing their new needle inspection systems at the trade fair VISION 2012 in Stuttgart, Germany (Hall1/ Booth H15). They will be unveiling a rather advanced automated inspection process, including the initial development of a respective system.
This system can be used to automatically inspect and measure a variety of needle types and geometries on the basis of different requirements such as external dimensions or grinding angle. It features multiple CCD cameras, including the lens optics, LED illumination media and a diode laser for locating the needle that needs to be inspected and any changes in angle.
Its specially developed measurement software can be considered an innovative key element. It allows for the geometric data measured to be compared with stored specifications and for deviations to be detected. “The software was the missing link that now allows for automatic detection for the first time ever. In its current stage, it is capable of performing around 15 different types of measurements, although even more are possible,” explains Tomo Mizuno, Manager of International/System Sales, who is responsible for developing and marketing the new inspection system at MORITEX. In fact, the exact light source, wavelength range, lighting format and parameters to be inspected can be selected depending on the processing conditions.
A couple of renowned Japanese needle manufacturers are already using this innovative inspection system. For SCHOTT and MORITEX, the next development step will be to put this development to use in an in-line system. “We have the know-how, therefore system development and integration will play an even more important role in our business in the future,” Mizuno adds.
