SCHOTT Defense Unveils New Lighter and More Durable Transparent Armor at AUSA 2013
SCHOTT’s RESISTAN windows offer a light-weight, rugged, and cost-effective solution to enhance military vehicle protection.
SCHOTT Defense will exhibit new lighter and more durable RESISTAN® transparent armor windows at the Association of the United States Army's (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 21 to 23, 2013 at booth #1803. These new designs extend the successful RESISTAN product line and offer longer service life, while trimming weight. SCHOTT leads the industry in producing high-performance glass and glass-ceramic transparent armor for military vehicles.
As military forces around the world strive to reduce logistics costs, improve vehicle maneuverability, and increase vehicle payloads, the weight of transparent armor has become increasingly crucial. In response, SCHOTT has developed new AEP 55 solutions that offer weight savings of 10 percent. These new designs help to increase fuel economy and reduce the overall logistics footprint for armored vehicle fleets.
In addition to saving weight, SCHOTT has also developed new, more durable armored window designs that are fully compliant with the latest version of the transparent armor purchase specification ATPD 2352, revision T.
“Protecting our Warfighters and improving their situational awareness have always been top priorities of the U.S. Department of Defense,” said Major General (Ret.) Scott Custer, USAF, President and CEO of SCHOTT Defense. “As our military is asked to do more with less, the durability and life cycle costs of components and equipment are becoming increasingly important. SCHOTT’s research and development team has long focused on delivering armor systems that keep our troops safe and improve vehicle performance. These latest advancements distinguish RESISTAN transparent armor as a superior value in military vehicle protection.”
