SCHOTT Acquires Sole Ownership of DiamondView Armor Products, LLC
January 15, 2009 (Boothwyn, PA and Arlington, VA) – SCHOTT North America, Inc. (SCHOTT) announced today that it has acquired sole ownership in DiamondView Armor Products, LLC (DAP) of Boothwyn, Penn. Effective with this announcement, the company will be called SCHOTT DiamondView Armor Products (SCHOTT DAP). Prior to becoming sole owner, DAP was a joint-venture of SCHOTT and Dynamic Defense Holdings, LLC (DDH).
SCHOTT DAP produces armor systems primarily used in defense applications for protection against blasts and projectiles. The company will continue to develop and manufacture transparent and opaque armor systems for personal, structural, and vehicular protection.
Glass-ceramic armor produced by SCHOTT DAP offers several unique benefits including a significant reduction in weight for vehicular armor. Additionally, the product offers UV filtering and a resistance to thermal cycling. Products produced by the company will be complete “ready to install” systems for each unique vehicle type.
“SCHOTT DAP is well positioned to become a market-leader in glass-ceramic armor systems,” said Scott Custer, the newly appointed President and CEO of SCHOTT DAP. “By combining SCHOTT’s extensive knowledge in the field of glass-ceramics with the capabilities of DAP, the company will produce innovative armor solutions that make soldiers safer.”
The acquisition of DAP marks SCHOTT’s continued emphasis in the defense and security industries. The company, which has been active in the market for 40 years, recently consolidated business development and marketing efforts for the defense and security industry into an office in Crystal City (Arlington), VA. In addition to armor systems, SCHOTT also produces advanced optics, fiber optics, and electronic packaging for use in defense and security applications.
