SCHOTT Lists KIMAX® Glass Drainline on Construction Specifications Institute's GreenFormat™
SCHOTT’s Borosilicate Glass Piping Used in Sustainable Lab Designs
December 10, 2009 (Elmsford, NY) — SCHOTT North America, Inc. announced today that its KIMAX® Glass Drainline product is now listed on the Construction Specifications Institute’s (CSI) GreenFormat. GreenFormat is a new, web-based CSI tool that allows building product manufacturers to accurately self-report the sustainable properties of their products through a comprehensive online questionnaire, and then display these properties in a standardized manner on the GreenFormat website.
“CSI’s GreenFormat is a great tool for building engineers, designers and architects looking to spec out the most sustainable products for their green building designs,” said David Weimann, Business Manager for Tubing and Labware at SCHOTT North America, Inc. “There is an unfortunate dearth of available information on acid waste drainline systems, or so-called ‘wet-side design,’ and this online resource helps to fill that gap. SCHOTT welcomes the opportunity to let building professionals know that KIMAX Glass Drainline is a smart, cost-effective and environmentally safe choice for acid-waste system designs.”
As has been the case for over 40 years, SCHOTT’s KIMAX® Borosilicate Glass Drainline offers one of the lowest life cycle costs on the market. Easily reconfigurable to meet changing lab requirements, it provides maximum corrosion resistance and the lowest relative thermal expansion of all competitive materials. Also, because of KIMAX’s low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), drainline systems that use it are environmentally responsible and when combined with KOCH KNIGHTWARE Neutralization Sumps they provide on-site wastewater treatment and acid neutralization.
Architects, designers, engineers and other building professionals who make product-selection decisions can search for KIMAX® Glass Drainline on the GreenFormat database at www.greenformat.com for free. There, they will find information on the green attributes of a variety of building products displayed in a specifications-friendly manner in order to help them find the right “green” products quickly and easily.
GreenFormat’s manufacturer’s questionnaire references specific industry standards wherever possible, and allows individual manufacturers to report additional information at the end of each entry. Sustainability claims are substantiated by relating questions to standards and certifications, which benefits both manufacturers and designers. For manufacturers, the direct link between questions and applicable standards and certifications delivers a clearer understanding of the intent of the questions.
