DSS is the world's largest unclassified event for defense, security, and sensing applications for industry and the environment.
April 24, 2012 (at the Defense, Security and Sensing Conference in Baltimore, MD) – SCHOTT Defense, a division of SCHOTT North America, Inc., is exhibiting (booth 1519) its innovations in military-application glass and optics technologies at the Defense Security and Sensing (DSS) trade show in Baltimore from April 23 to 27.

After more than 40 years of producing innovative advanced glass solutions for the U.S. military, SCHOTT Defense continues to enhance and customize optical glass, IR transparent glasses, fiber optic and filtered glass components for military all-terrain vehicles, night vision systems, advanced cockpits and more.

During the DSS show, SCHOTT Defense scientists and research experts will highlight the company’s developments through six presentations.

Optical Design and Assembly Capabilities by SCHOTT
by Mike Dargie

SCHOTT Defense now offers advanced optical design and assembly capabilities, including conventional optics, as well as incorporating SCHOTT’s imaging fiber optics into optical and electro/optic design.
The demonstration will be held on Tuesday, April 24, at 3:30 p.m.

New LG940 Laser Glass
by Matthew Roth
SCHOTT continues bring innovative laser glasses to the OEMs, enabling more efficient, higher rep-rate operations in "eye-safe" medical and range-finding applications at 1.54um.
The demonstration will be held on Tuesday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Technical paper presentation in Session 12: IR Optics II “Qualification and Metrology for U.S. Produced Chalcogenides” by Dr. Nathan Carlie will be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 4:50 p.m.

Chalcogenide Materials and Aspheric Infrared Optics from SCHOTT produced in the United States
by Dr. Nathan Carlie
SCHOTT now produces the IG family of chalcogenide glasses in the United States with validated optical and physical properties for imaging in the NIR through LWIR.
The demonstration will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m.

Technical paper presentation in Session 2: Cockpit Avionics and Vetronics
“Biocular Vehicle Display Optical Designs” by Tom Carter will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 10:50 a.m.

Broadband AR Coatings from SCHOTT
by Jayson Nelson

Broadband AR coatings: Schott has added U.S. capability for anti-reflective coating. Multiwavelength, Single wavelength, and Broadband Antireflection coatings for the UV, VIS, NIR are available. The demonstration will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 12:30 p.m.

SCHOTT Defense innovations in military glass and optics technologies are developed from R&D stage to design and manufacturing at the company’s Duryea, PA and Southbridge, MA plants. Last year, SCHOTT invested $2 million and expanded the Duryea site, which also serves as its U.S. Research and Development center, by opening a new optical coatings facility.

DSS is organized annually by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. SCHOTT and SPIE’s relationship spans more than 30 years and has resulted in more than 100 academic papers and reports about innovative optics and photonics manufacturing.
