When designers develop new concepts, choosing the right material can mark the difference between success and failure. At the Ceramics Expo, SCHOTT will show a broad range of applications for the new specially coated laboratory glass DURAN®, the glass-ceramic material NEXTREMA®, and the precision-drawn profile tubing CONTURAX® and CONTURAX® Pro. These materials will be shown at the Ceramics Expo in Cleveland, Ohio from April 25-27 at booth 813.

Our work environment has never been more flexible and designers are rethinking every surface of modern offices and meeting rooms. NEXTREMA® glass-ceramic panels could play a multi-faceted role in those new designs. Opaque white glass-ceramic can serve as white boards or projection surfaces, and with a back side made of metal, becomes magnetic. The glass-ceramic panel itself is available in sizes up to 1.9 x 1.05 meters and can be extended modularly.

NEXTREMA® is available in six different color variations, from transparent or translucent white to blue grey, black and opaque white, grey and blue grey. The material combines a number of sophisticated technical characteristics and offers special design freedom.

“Our ‘Next Extreme Material’ NEXTREMA® is very strong, has a smooth, non-porous surface and can be used in the infrared range. At the same time, it withstands very high temperatures of up to 950 degrees Celsius and defies rapid temperature changes,” explains Roberto Perez-Castro, Product Manager for SCHOTT NEXTREMA®.
SCHOTT will also demonstrate the incredible possibilities of glass tubing, including its DURAN® glass tubing line. DURAN® can be manufactured with different wall thicknesses and inner diameters, and new coatings add different properties, from maximizing light throughput to resisting fingerprints to switching between reflective and transmissive. DURAN® tubes are used in the food industry, and as resonators in the construction of laser cutters that can make precise cuts to steel. When specially coated to reduce glare and make cleaning easier, DURAN® serves as a high-quality protector of optical lenses, including 360-degree lenses used in filming virtual reality scenes.

In total, SCHOTT can manufacture 60 types of glass tubing, including CONTURAX®, and additional coatings expand the uses of the piping.

“From design to engineering to industrial applications, the shape of a tube, its coatings, and its optical properties can all have big ramifications for how useful a product can be,” said Dr. Andre Petershans, Product Manager for SCHOTT Tubing. “Whatever problem you need to solve, SCHOTT has a high-performance glass that can meets your needs. Further, we will work with every customer or partner to develop new materials or processes to advance the state of the art.”

SCHOTT, NEXTREMA®, and CONTURAX® are registered trademarks of SCHOTT.
