Batteries

Independent power supplies for smaller electronic devices in the industrial sector and safety engineering are often provided by special lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) batteries that enable electrical devices to be supplied with high-current pulses. Due to the aggressive nature of the chemicals used in these batteries, as well as the environment in which they are being used (e.g. cockpits of an aircraft, radio devices and motor vehicles), batteries have to be reliably encapsulated so as to ensure optimal performance.

SCHOTT Electronic Packaging offers housings that are designed to provide dependable protection for the entire lifetime of a battery, in many cases for up to 20 years. Our advanced glass-to-metal seals also ensure maximum safety in the event of an accident, whereby lithium is prevented from leaking out of the battery and causing dangerous repercussions. Autoclavability is yet another reason why leading customers all over the world rely on these state-of-the art battery housings from SCHOTT.
