Avionics
Getting an aircraft to fly safely calls for the highest level of engineering capability to control the aerodynamic forces. Hundreds of sensors, converters and microelectronic devices are needed in each aircraft, to carefully protect against corrosion, extreme temperature changes, contamination and vibrations. Automotive
Driving is becoming an essential part of our lives as it becomes simpler and certainly much safer, which is largely due to the use of more electronic sensors and microchips.
However, these electronic devices are very sensitive and need to be protected against humidity, extreme temperature changes, gases, dirt and vibrations. SCHOTT Electronic Packaging develops and produces custom glass-to-metal sealed feedthroughs as well as housing components for automotive electronics applications, especially:
- Feedthroughs for engine, fuel tank and brake systems
- Sensor encapsulations for tire pressure control, special batteries and anti-theft devices
- Hermetically sealed housings for safety devices such as gyro (yaw rate) sensors, crash sensors, airbag igniters, seatbelt pretensioners as well as humidity sensors and hydraulic systems.

Marine / LNG vessels
As an alternative to extremely expensive gas pipelines, specially designed cryogenic sea vessels and road tankers are becoming increasingly important to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG). The pumps that fill and empty the tanks are typically installed inside the vessels – completely submerged and flooded with LNG, cooled down to -160°C for reduced volume.
These submerged pumps can be safely supplied with energy through the use of large scale power and instrumentation penetrations for LNG and CNG (compressed natural gas) vessels which we provided to our customers.
