SCHOTT Electronic Packaging endeavors to provide reliable, high quality products.
Glass-to-Metal and Ceramic-to-Metal Seals
Hermetically sealed products from SCHOTT Electronic Packaging undergo vigorous testing and quality assurance programs to ensure the high quality our customers expect from SCHOTT products. These processes include test procedures according to MIL STD 883, MIL PRF 38534 JEDEC 9 and Telcordia, such as:
- Hermeticity
- Electrical insulation
- Lead fatigue
- Visual and dimensional examination
- Solderability
- Thermal shock
Large-scale Feedthroughs
During production and at final inspection, each large-scale feedthrough is examined carefully to ascertain pressure stability and hermeticity as well as electrical performance.
Examples of standard quality assurance checks include:
- Helium leak check (mass spectrometer)
- Pressure test
- Electrical tests (high pot and insulation resistance)
- Visual and dimensional inspection
To qualify new designs, the designs are subject to intensive testing programs which may - depending on the application – additionally include:
- Cryogenic shock
- Temperature cyclin
- Voltage surge
- Thermal and radiological aging
- LOCA test
- Heating under electrical load
Glass Powder
Glass powder from the SCHOTT Group is specially tailored to customer requirements. Depending on the end application, the following quality assurance tests can be conducted:
- Chemical purity
- Grain size
- Tg acc. DIN-ISO 7884
- α(20-300)
- Softening point
- Color
Thermal Cutoffs
Thermal cutoff products undergo vigorous testing and quality assurance processes to ensure stable and reliable quality.
In the quality assurance process, we evaluate the operating temperature with tests such as:
- High temperature test
- High humidity test
- Temperature cycle test
Precision Glass Tubes
Precision glass tubes for the encapsulation of electronic components must meet stringent requirements as they are used in special applications such as switches, lamps, identification systems, etc…
Depending on the end use, the following tests can be conducted to assure quality:
- Dimensional inspection
- Cleanliness of dust and particles
- Purity of the glass used
- Biocompatibility (for animal ID-systems)
Precision Discs
SCHOTT manufactures precision discs of brittle materials such as glass, ceramic, sapphire, etc… for electronic and special applications.
All products must pass a final inspection test for:
- Dimensional inspection
- Cleanliness of dust and particles
- Surface and edge quality (if applicable)
- Purity of glass used
