Light source is positioned on opposite side of camera and workpiece.

Brightfield
By means of a diffusor between light source and workpiece a high contrast image of the shape of the workpiece will be created.

Advantages:

  • Sharp silhouette of workpiece for edge detection (dimensioning)

  • Even illumination background for transparent and opaque workpieces
  • Disadvantages:

  • Surface structure not visible
  • How to realize:

  • LED Backlight

  • Fiber Optic Backlight

  • Transmitted Light Stage
  • Darfield
    Improves contrast of transparent workpieces. Low angle illumination makes the edges appear bright against dark background.
