China receives first glass-to-metal sealed hermetic penetration from SCHOTT for testing
Beijing (China) / Landshut (Germany), October 26, 2011 – China’s first commercial High Temperature Reactor (HTR) in the province of Shandong will be one of the most modern nuclear power plants in the world. Employing only the safest and most reliable technology available today, SCHOTT has been selected to supply its hermetic glass-to-metal sealed Electrical Penetration Assemblies (EPAs). The first feedthrough has now been delivered to the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) at Tsinghua University for testing and training purposes.

LG-910 and LG-930 for eye-sparing 1.5 μm lasers for metrological and medical applications
Mainz (Germany) / Duryea (USA), June 15, 2010 – The international, technology-driven SCHOTT Group is expanding its active laser glass product offering. The newly developed LG-910 and LG-930 glasses emit at a wavelength of 1.5 μm. Lasers operating at this wavelength are especially eye-sparing. They are being used more and more for metrological and medical applications. User eye- safety is of primary importance in these fields. The product offering includes laser components fabricated to customer specifications (e.g. rods, plates and discs) with a dielectric coating that provides an extremely high laser damage threshold.

Mainz (Germany), June 04, 2010 – The market for high- brightness Light Emitting Diodes (LED) is growing strongly. To meet the rising demand, suppliers are developing new ways of manufacturing components in larger volumes. SCHOTT has now patented a precision molding process for producing strips and arrays of high refractive miniature lenses out of glass. Glass types like P-LaSF47 enable compact light source dimensions with high light throughputs for wavelengths ranging from 350 to 2,000 nm.
