EU Warranty

Scope of the warranty statement

This warranty statement is valid for SCHOTT’s KL-Series of Halogen cold light sources and accessories and SCHOTT’s LED illumination series.

Warranty Conditions

KL Light sources: Each KL-light source has a two year warranty relative to the manufacturing date of the light source, which is marked on each light source. Light source failures within this period which are related to defective material and/or workmanship will be repaired or completely replaced free of charge to the customer. Excluded from warranty claims are halogen bulbs, heat filters and fuses. Damage of the light source through inappropriate or negligent handling cannot be claimed under warranty conditions. KL-Accessories: Fiber optic light guides or other optical or mechanical accessories have a 2 year warranty. Failures related to defective material and/or workmanship will be repaired or completely replaced free of charge to the customer. Damage of the light guides or accessories through inappropriate or negligent handling cannot be claimed under warranty conditions. LED Controller and Lightheads: Have a 2 year warranty relative to the serial number which is marked on each product. Failures within this period which are related to defective material and/or workmanship, will be repaired or completely replaced free of charge to the customer. Excluded from warranty claims is the degradation of LED light output over time due to altering and environmental conditions. Damage of the LED components through inappropriate or negligent handling cannot be claimed under warranty conditions.

Handling of Warranty Repairs

Freight charges for sending in a warranty light source to SCHOTT must be paid by the customer. Freight charges for sending the repaired/replaced unit back to the customer will be paid by SCHOTT.

Void of Warranty and Original Design Condition

Opening of any SCHOTT product by a non-authorized facility is voiding the warranty conditions. In addition, replacing original SCHOTT spare parts with any non-listed part is not permitted. This would void any approvals of the product in its original design condition, like VDE or UL/CSA. Any electronic or mechanical changes within the product which change the original design condition are not conform with VDE, CE or UL/CSA approvals and therefore not permitted. It is required to remove the approval labels from the housing of the product, as well as the original SCHOTT logo. If a product is sent in for repair which obviously has been opened without authorization and/or contains non-listed spare parts it will be returned to the customer without repair. The customer has the full liability for the nonapproved product. Product improvements may result in specification or feature changes without notice.

Repair of Products Outside Warranty

Products outside warranty can be repaired either at SCHOTT or at an authorized service center. In both cases costs for spare parts and repair charges, as well as the costs for transportation will be charged to the customer.

Extended Service Offering

Extended Service Offering for SCHOTT Microscopy LED Products (EasyLED, VisiLED, KL200LED, KL1500LED, KL2500LED series).

LEDs are very reliable semiconductor components with extremely long lifetime LED manufacturers specify "MeanTime Between Failure" (MTBF) of typically 100.000 operating hrs (about 11 yrs). MTBF is a statistcal value and means that the LED might live for 200.000 hrs in some cases, but also there is a small risk of earlier failure. For optimal performance it is neccessary to mount selected sets of LEDs for each lightsource unit. There is no economic way of providing LEDs with appropriate specifications to repair single LED failures at high quality level. SCHOTT will always replace complete LED Modules to maintain the high performance of the light source. To cover risks of LED component failure after warranty period SCHOTT offers an Extended Service procedure.

In the case of LED component failure Schott offers the following service procedure: Within a 5 year period, based on the production date, determined by the serial number, SCHOTT will repair or replace the light source for 50% of the recommended SCHOTT listprice for a new product, as valid at the date of repair. Freight charges from customer to Schott must be paid by the customer. If service charges are below 150 € a handling fee of 48 € will be added. Void of Extended Service Offering

Damage of the LED component through inappropriate handling or operation out of specified conditions cannot be claimed for the Extended Service Offering. Please refer to the respective user manual. In particular to mention:

  • Mechanical damage of the LED component
  • Restrain cooling f.e. by coverage of radiator grills or ventilators
  • Using accessories like filters, remote switches, power supplies or lightguides not specified by SCHOTT
  • Opening of the device by non authorized facilities
