For end emitting systems the optical fibers in the fiber optic lighting cable transmit light by total internal reflection from the light source to the end fittings. The fibers at both ends of the fiber optic lighting cable are specially processed to allow the optimum light transmission while being robust enough to withstand the heat from the lamp at the point of input. Side emitting systems are available utilizing glass. SCHOTT SpectraFlex’s small fibers are specially manufactured to allow light to emit along their entire length. A fiber optic lighting cable constructed from small fibers allows increased flexibility and being glass, such side emitting fibers can be combined with standard end-emitting fibers in a custom configuration. A special factory-produced end termination process at the common end ensures SCHOTT SpectraFlex’s longevity and good optical performance.
