Randomizing

The fiber arrangement within a light guide normally occurs arbitrarily during the manufacturing process. For certain applications it can be useful or required to arrange the fibers in a randomized or a specific pattern. In the case of multibranch light guides, the fibers from the individual branches can thus be randomized in the common end to allow an even distribution of the light to each branch. The animation shows several examples of possible patterns.
