Pyrometry

SCHOTT Popup Please click here to zoom image!
Pyrometers are used to continuously spot and measure temperature, for infrared scan and for thermal imaging.

Turbine pyrometers are used to measure the temperature of turbine blades, for example in aircraft engines, without contacting the surface concerned. This measurement is necessary to avoid damage to the material through overheating. In this appliation, light guides transfer the temperature radiation from the turbine blades to a detector.

The hot-fused light guide ends in the turbine are temperature-resistant to 350°C due to hot-fusing thus ensuring reliable transfer of the light in spite of extreme temperature, high pressure, vibration, acceleration and chemical influences encountered in the turbine.
