New technological achievements can be accomplished in a number of different ways. One possible approach is to have many bright people with different skills work passionately to achieve a common goal. This is how we developed our PURAVIS® high-performance glass fiber. In this case, a 17-member interdisciplinary team not only managed to develop an environmentally-friendly process, but has also seen to it that this product innovation has already become a considerable market success. The SCHOTT Innovation Award was presented in 2014 for the first time to recognize this outstanding teamwork which is a prime example of working as a ”Connected Company” and our company value ”Drive Innovation.” In the future, this award will send a signal to the market each year on outstanding and successful innovations ”made by SCHOTT.”
An example involving laser glass also illustrates how we understand the challenges and needs of the market, continuously improve our products and processes and always think beyond the limitations of today’s capabilities. In 40 years of research, our experts in Duryea in the United States have laid the foundation for SCHOTT to become one of the leading suppliers of this promising material. We are an active partner in pioneering major projects and are helping to drive progress in key laser technology forward with our unique expertise.
These are only two of the many interesting topics you will read about in this issue. They illustrate how we concentrate our energy and expertise on finding solutions that inspire customers and help us achieve even greater success.
We sincerely hope you enjoy reading this edition.
