Wafers Applications
The implementation of the digital camera in mobile phones mandates innovative solutions for effective light management. SCHOTT offers a wide variety of substrate materials in combination with excellent expertise in wafer processing for wafer level optics. Thus we can support our customers in miniaturizing the lens modules in a variety of thicknesses for camera phones at the wafer level.

As one of the smallest devices, MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) are gaining in importance as development goes to smaller sizes with higher performance. SCHOTT supports this development and always tries to set new standards in the market which enable enhancements and further developments.

Wafer Level Packaging (image sensor packaging)

Smaller and cost competitive packages drive the semiconductor industry when it comes to wafer level, chip-size packaging of image sensors. At the same time, the consumer requires better image quality. SCHOTT offers alkali-free glasses with a coefficient of thermal expansion that matches silicon and produce wafers of excellent optical quality. Our wafers enable packaging houses to fulfill the ever-increasing requirements of the market.

Biotechnology (microfluids, DNA analysis, ...)

In the biotechnology and life sciences fields, substrates with the highest surface quality and cleanliness are requested.
Applications include microfluidics (e.g. for medical analysis, drug testing or dosage) and biochips (e.g. arrays for DNA analysis).
Our customized wafer products enable customer-specific solutions and product designs. Due to the high chemical and thermal resistance, glass wafers are often the material of choice in this field.
