SCHOTT produces glass tubes and beads that are used in the manufacture of Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL), which are used as backlighting in modern flat screen LCD TVs and PC monitors. The glass is ideally suited to be fused with kovar or tungsten and offers a high degree of straightness and process stability when machining. SCHOTT's glass tubes are produced with a UV block in the glass matrix that provides an effective protection against premature aging of plastic parts in the electronics. They also offer a high transmission rate of visible light that increases the brightness of the CCFL. Lastly the glass meets all standards required by the recycling process.

SCHOTT has succeeded in becoming one of the leading suppliers in the world of glass tubes for the manufacture of CCFL backlights. This was achieved through an innovation process that was jointly established with key customers. The results of this innovation process have allowed SCHOTT to produce glass tubes that are not only aligned with the requirements of direct customers, but they are also tailored to the entire value chain.
