The future of mobile devices will be highly flexible and bendable. Thinner than a human hair and polished in fire, SCHOTT AS 87 eco glass is a key enabler of new form factors in consumer electronics. The international technology group SCHOTT will display this environmentally friendly, ultra-thin aluminosilicate (AS) glass at C-Touch in Shenzen.

Available in thicknesses ranging from 50 – 400 μm, AS 87 eco is as strong as the current leading mobile phone cover glass after chemical strengthening. It can withstand demanding applications, such as 2D, 2.5D, or 3D screen protector glass for displays and cover glass for fingerprint sensors and camera modules. Additionally, the ultra-thin glass can be utilized as an encapsulation material in micro-batteries or as an IC packaging substrate.

“At last year’s C-Touch, we introduced SCHOTT AS 87 eco to the market. This year, we will focus on a broad variety of already established applications for our product, such as smartphone display screen protector,” said Dr. Jack Ju, Head of Global Product Management at SCHOTT Advanced Optics. “The high strength and flexibility of our glass is truly unique. We continuously stress ultra-thin glass samples in bending machines, and AS 87 eco is rollable.”

SCHOTT AS 87 eco launched in 2016 to significant market demand, and it has seen a growing sales volume. SCHOTT is the only glass manufacturer worldwide capable of producing aluminosilicate glass in thicknesses below 100 μm in mass production. The proprietary production process – the SCHOTT down-draw technology – allows very tight thickness tolerances of ± 10 μm or lower. The glass is available in variety of thicknesses, and complies with the regulations of RoHS and REACH regarding its environmental friendliness. The glass itself has excellent transmission characteristics and outstanding quality.

Meet SCHOTT at C-Touch in Shenzhen on October 24-26 in Hall 1, International Material Zone, Booth 1C19. Discover the people behind this innovation on the SCHOTT innovation platform.
