Material of the Future

SCHOTT rolls up ultra-thin glasses and thereby creates the material for the next generation of displays

By means of the so called down draw technology, SCHOTT produces glass in strengths less 50 micrometers – which is as thin as a human hair. The glass is flexible but stable at the same time.

Now the international technology group succeeds in rolling it up in smallest radius. Thus, the glass can be literally wrapped around a finger. With this technology, SCHOTT paves the way for the next generation of displays – since ultrathin glass rolled up in such a challenging geometry can be integrated in industrial processes and applications, in which only polymer have been used so far. The future has begun!
