Areas of application
Fire Door Lites
- A Fire Door is the door component of a fire door assembly, that together with the frame, hardware and other accessories provide a specific degree of fire protection to the opening. Fire Doors are tested according to NFPA 252 or UL 10B or UL 10C and installed according to NFPA 80.
- PYRAN® Star fire-rated glazing installed as vision panels in Fire Doors provides a clear view for occupants exiting the building in an emergency.
- For Fire Door Lites installed in areas subject to human impact, PYRAN® Star F and PYRAN® Star L meet CPSC 16 CFR 1201 impact requirements.
- PYRAN® Star in Fire Door Lites passes the required hose stream test and is fire-rated up to 180 minutes. It is permanently labeled D-H-90 or D-H-180.
Fire Window Glazing
- Fire Windows are constructed and glazed to give protection against the passage of fire. Fire Windows are tested according to NFPA 257 or UL 9 and installed according to NFPA 80.
- PYRAN® Star fire-rated glazing installed in Fire Windows remains clear during a fire and provides a clear view for occupants exiting the building in an emergency.
- For Fire Windows installed in areas subject to human impact, PYRAN® Star F and PYRAN® Star L meet CPSC 16 CFR 1201 impact requirements.
- PYRAN® Star in Fire Windows passes the required hose stream test and is fire-rated up to 90 minutes. It is permanently labeled OH-90.
Transoms, Sidelites and Borrowed Lites
- Transoms and Sidelites are smaller glazed windows that may surround the Fire Door. Borrowed Lites are installed in interior walls to allow light from an adjacent room. Transoms, Sidelites and Borrowed Lites in Fire Rated walls are constructed and glazed to give protection against the passage of fire. These three special windows are tested as Fire Windows according to NFPA 257 or UL 9 and installed according to NFPA 80.
- PYRAN® Star fire-rated glazing installed in Fire Windows remains clear during a fire and provides a clear view for occupants exiting the building in an emergency.
- For Fire Windows installed in areas subject to human impact, PYRAN® Star F and PYRAN® Star L meet CPSC 16 CFR 1201 impact requirements.

Product types
PYRAN® Star fire-rated glass ceramics are available in three product types:
- PYRAN® Star - monolithic glass-ceramic
- PYRAN® Star F - monolithic glass-ceramic (filmed) with a surface-applied safety film
- PYRAN® Star L - two glass-ceramic lites (laminated) with 1 mm interlayer
Technical data
All fire tests performed in accordance with UL9, UL10B, UL10C, UBC7-2 (1997), UBC7-4 (1997), NFPA252, NFPA257, NFPA80, ASTME2010-01, ASTME2074-00, ULCCAN4-S104 and ULCCAN4-S106.
Note: This product is not considered a barrier to radiant heat and does not meet the ASTM E-119 or UL 263 test standards.
