We know that education and training are the keys to a better future, and we provide dedicated support for today’s and tomorrow’s best and brightest. We make ongoing investments in education and training for the younger generation, focusing on science education and training in secondary schools and colleges. Our efforts in this area focus on promotion of young people in mathematics, sciences, technics and informatics.

Inspired by the work of the German scientist Gottfried Wagener, the German Innovation Award in Japan has been initiated by technology-focused German companies and industry-academia to promote cooperation between Germany and Japan. The Gottfried Wagener Prize is granted for path-breaking research that is driven by the power of imagination and innovation and provides creative applicable solutions. The prize is awarded for application-oriented research work in the areas of environment & energy, healthcare, and safety & security. SCHOTT is one of the supporters.
“Jugend forscht” (Youth does research) is the largest competition held for young scientists in the areas of the natural sciences, mathematics and technology in all of Europe. “Jugend forscht” is divided into three levels: local and regional competitions and one final national competition. Students of between 9 and 17 years of age are able to participate in the program. SCHOTT has been organizing and supporting the local competition in Mainz-Rhinehessen since 1970.
Young researchers from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz to start with have been supported by the SCHOTT Fund since it was founded in 1984. This support was extended in 2007 to include research institutions at home and abroad that pursue scientific objectives. The support is given in the form of money and / or non-cash benefits for studies, diploma and doctoral theses, but also by awarding prizes for outstanding scientific work in the field of applied natural science, particularly in the fields of materials and glass science.
To assist and educate young people and see to it that skilled workers are available. This nonprofit club actively supports the development of the University in many different ways: among other things, by supporting university events and financing the university‘s activities and promotional awards. Particularly close attention is paid to transferring knowledge and technology between the university and companies based in the region. One main focus is supporting extremely gifted students and future researchers.
The Otto Schott Research Award alternates with the Carl Zeiss Research Award every year in recognition of excellence in scientific research and motivational support for cooperation between scientific research and industry.
The Heinrich J. Klein Stiftung was founded in 1993 by Dr. Heinrich J. Klein and his wife Dr. Liesel Klein and was provided with considerable funds from their private resources. Dr. Klein who had been the first chairman of the SCHOTT management board until 1988 considered “internationalisation” as the center of his interest and his actions. His own positive experiences in connection with his studies in the US shortly after the second World War raised his wish to support young people to further qualify while staying in foreign countries and intensify the international exchange. Since 1993 the activities of the foundation have been managed by Corporate Human Ressources of the SCHOTT AG. The annual selection of the scholarship candidates is carried through by a board of trustees, which consists of members of the SCHOTT management board and the head of the work council.
