Applications Engineer

SCHOTT Electronic Packaging is a leading developer and manufacturer of hermetic housings and other components for the reliable, long-term protection of sensitive electronics. Our core technologies are glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal sealing, thermal sensing components as well as a variety of cutting edge specialty glass competences.

Your tasks

The Applications Engineer is the technical liaison between customers and internal functions. This position is responsible for designing and developing new products, procedures and methods for customer applications, transfers to manufacturing and provide on-going manufacturing support.
  • Interprets and evaluates customer drawings, requirements, and specifications.
  • Assists customers with design concepts to ensure product is manufacturable.
  • Determines feasibility of customer designs and prepares quotations in support of the Sales.
  • Develops new products on-time and within budget.
  • Plans and executes engineering projects in support of long term business objectives.
  • Approves product, component and fixture designs for manufacturability and compliance to requirements.
  • Develops internal drawings and process documentation.
  • Develops and improves manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts fabrication processes.
  • Monitors and improves product quality.

Your profile

  • 4-year degree in Engineering.
  • Advanced degree in Ceramic and Glass Science or Metallurgy/Materials Science strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience developing hermetic packages, using glass-to-metal-seal technology for defense and aerospace applications.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Extensive experience as customer liaison and technical consultant.
  • Problem Solving Methods. 
  • Project planning, quoting, and cost estimation experience.
  • Must be a self-starter with a hands-on approach capable of working independently and as part of a team.
