SCHOTT teams up with Smart Skin Technologies - Pharma packaging specialist is joining forces with innovative monitoring system provider to improve glass integrity in pharmaceutical packaging with the help of big data
Smart Skin Technologies and SCHOTT have announced plans to enter into a strategic cooperation. Smart Skin has developed an online monitoring system for measuring line pressure and 3D orientation of glass packaging during the filling process of pharmaceutical drugs. This helps pharma companies to reduce packaging defects, such as scratches and bruises in the glass, as well as particle generation. As part of the exclusive collaboration, SCHOTT will contribute equity capital to the Canadian big data expert, and the companies plan to mutually benefit from their sales networks and expertise. Smart Skin will join SCHOTT at CPhI in Madrid for a shared exhibition on October 8-11, 2018. More

The Next Generation Vials from SCHOTT: Perfection made for people
SCHOTT is presenting a new concept for pharmaceutical vials at this year’s CPhI Worldwide trade show. The 'Next Gen Vials' combine a number of features leading to unmatched drug stability even for so-called low-fill applications and efficient and cost-competitive fill & finish. The superior chemical resistance and extractables and leachables (E&L) profile make the vials highly suitable for sensitive biotech drugs, high potent drugs or vaccines. The vials are made of an improved Type I FIOLAX® borosilicate glass and include the company's validated delamination controlled production process, both ensuring a particularly improved resistance of the inner surface. Pharma companies can replace conventional tubular type-I glass vials for already marketed drugs with the next generation of vials without costly re-registration. The complete product offering will be based on a modular approach depending on the customer’s needs. The new vials reflecting the first features for a perfect fit for use are now ready for order from the company's US and German facilities. Pharma manufacturers can learn more about SCHOTT's latest innovation at CPhI booth 4B10 (Oct. 9-11, 2018, Madrid, Spain). More

ZERODUR® has been SCHOTT’s material answer for demanding high-tech and astronomy applications for 50 years.
Precision material with practically zero expansion
Half a century ago, materials specialists from SCHOTT used an ingenious process technology to develop ZERODUR®, a special glass-ceramic with a coefficient of expansion of nearly zero. This property makes the material ideal for applications requiring the highest precision in fields such as astronomy, IC lithography, the semiconductor industry, metrology, and flat panel display production. In the material’s most recent milestone, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) selected ZERODUR® for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) project. SCHOTT will supply the ELT with 798 ZERODUR® blanks including spares to form its primary mirror out of 798 hexagonal tiles and will create its monolithic mirrors with ZERODUR® as well. SCHOTT is currently investing heavily in its glass-ceramic competence center in Mainz. With new melting capacities and post-processing options for a wide range of technical applications, the company is ideally positioned for the future. More
