Etihad Engineering, SCHOTT, jetlite, and Lufthansa Technik to cooperate on Human-Centric Lighting development
Reducing jet lag and other symptoms of multi-timezone flights to increase passenger well-being

Today at Dubai Air Show, SCHOTT, jetlite, Etihad Engineering and Lufthansa Technik have signed a ceremonial letter expressing co-operation in further exploring and promoting a new “Human-centric Lighting” technology and bringing it to the market. The collaboration aims at combining SCHOTT’s expertise in cabin lighting systems, jetlite’s holistic and scientifically-proven solution for jetlag reduction, Etihad Engineering’s and Lufthansa Technik’s expertise for aircraft systems integration, design certification, and innovation capabilities. The result is an effective system for automated cabin lighting scenarios that will positively affect air travelers’ well-being on multi-timezone flights by reducing jet lag and headaches, and enabling higher concentration and energy levels.

SCHOTT Illuminates Single-Use Endoscopes with New and Easy-to-Handle Product Line
The SCHOTT® SingleEZ Guide plug-and-play illumination solution for single-use endoscopes is the first member of a new modular product family based on fiber optics.

Fiber optic lighting specialist SCHOTT has developed the SCHOTT® SingleEZ Guide illumination solution, a plug-and-play light guide that allows easy and fast installation into a complete system. Thanks to the space-saving integration of flexible glass fibers, the illumination product delivers the maximum amount of light to the exact spot needed. The new solution also reduces heat transmission to enable easier registration with regulatory authorities. The development marks SCHOTT’s first entrance into the single-use endoscope market. SCHOTT will present its innovations for single-use endoscopes at the medical device trade show COMPAMED, November 18–21, 2019 in Dusseldorf, Germany (Hall 8b, Stand H08).

Setting the Standard in Next-Generation Electric Compressors
The reliability and performance of electric air conditioning compressors in EVs, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles heavily depends on one component: the compressor terminal. The compressor terminal must remain hermetically sealed to prevent refrigerant leakage while also enabling the transfer of high power loads from the battery to the compressor. For the first time, the technology group and compressor terminal expert SCHOTT now offers a range of standard compressor terminals that have been long sought after by e-compressor developers. Fully optimized for performance and efficiency, the portfolio includes a standard design for 200-500V applications, typically used in electric vehicles. SCHOTT furthermore offers optimized compressor terminals that support next-generation requirements, such as 48V battery systems and quick-charging technology with high voltages up to 800V. More

West and SCHOTT Announce Partnership to combine the SCHOTT iQ® Platform with West’s Ready Pack™ System
Supports Global Customers Seeking High-quality, Ready-to-use Packaging Products

West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE: WST), a global leader in innovative solutions for injectable drug administration, and the international technology group SCHOTT, a leading primary packaging solutions provider, today announced a partnership to combine the SCHOTT iQ® platform with West’s Ready Pack™ system. The collaboration will initially launch by combining West components and SCHOTT’s adaptiQ® high-quality RTU glass vials and will expand to include other convenient, ready-to-use combinations of West and SCHOTT products, to be available on a small-quantity basis. The companies made the announcement at the CPhI Worldwide conference, and shared plans to expand West’s Ready Pack system to include additional SCHOTT glass offerings— including more vial formats as well as ready-to-use cartridges (cartriQ™) and pre-fillable glass syringes (syriQ®). Further product launch plans will be shared at the Pharmapack meeting in early 2020.

SCHOTT teams up with GORE to introduce world’s first silicone-free glass syringe system
Silicone has long been a necessary substance for pre-fillable syringes to help reduce the injection force needed to administer drugs, making the treatment more comfortable for the patient. Yet, silicone may interact with and harm the drug. Pharmaceutical packaging specialist SCHOTT has collaborated with W.L. Gore & Associates to pare GORE ImproJect Plungers with syriQ BioPure® silicone-free1 syringes. Together, we present the first pre-fillable glass syringe (PFS) system that completely eliminates the need for silicone or similar substances. SCHOTT builds state-of-the-art plant for high-quality pharmaceutical glass tubing in China
The international technology group SCHOTT held a goundbreaking ceremony for its greenfield pharmaceutical glass tubing plant in Jinyun, Zhejiang.

The capacity expansion comes at a time when China is aspiring to become an innovative global powerhouse. Particularly the pharmaceutical sector plays a key role within China’s innovation roadmap, which is moving from manufacturing generics to new drug development. This shift is further underlined by the “Healthy China 2030” initiative. Subsequently, there is a high demand for premium pharmaceutical packaging made out of Type I pharmaceutical glass in the local market. The demand for high quality drug packaging products is further underlined through government initiatives and ever-growing patient safety standards. The new plant will enable SCHOTT to participate in the advancement of the Chinese pharmaceutical packaging industry. SCHOTT will invest 60 million Euros in the first phase to install a yearly capacity of up to 20.000 tons. The production is scheduled to start at the end of 2020.

Pre-scored chip substrates provide new options for manufacturers of innovative diagnostic consumables

Biotech companies have made remarkable strides developing lab-on-a-chip (LoaC) technology — ever smaller chips that integrate laboratory functions for rapid diagnostic testing. Performing the precise manufacturing steps that these remarkable diagnostic consumables require, such as the application of coating or the printing of barcodes, is getting more difficult and expensive as miniaturization progresses. SCHOTT now eases these challenges by offering NEXTERION® PreScora. These pre-scored substrates can undergo processing steps as a whole and easily be fashioned to their final size afterwards. This lowers production cost significantly while enabling diagnostic consumable and equipment manufacturers to leverage the performance advantages of a high quality glass chip.
