Better receivers manufactured better: SCHOTT contributes to the competitiveness of CSP solar power
When topics such as Poka Yoke, Jidoka or Six Sigma are discussed at the CSP receiver plants in Mitterteich (Germany) and Aznalcóllar (Spain), the employees who work for SCHOTT in manufacturing immediately understand what is meant. After all, they have leveraged these approaches aimed at achieving intelligent automation and process and quality improvements from other industries and successfully applied them to the manufacture of solar receivers. In addition, the employees have developed their own ideas – for example, an unloading device that replaces the manual handling of receiver tubes and thus reduces waste. The CSP unit now serves as a role model for the entire SCHOTT Group with respect to productivity and throughput times. For this reason, the Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT, Dr. Frank Heinricht, presented the CSP site in Aznalcóllar with the first groupwide Best Production@SCHOTT Award.
