SCHOTT Fiber Optic Faceplate Enables Sharper Digital Images, Longer-Lasting Sensors
High attenuation, superb image resolution possible with SCHOTT’s fused fiber optic faceplates, which is available in a variety of shapes and sizes

Let’s help physicians see more
As the CMOS sensors’ pixel sizes that make digital X-ray imaging possible continue to shrink and become less expensive to produce, the volume of imaging systems will continue to grow. High performance fiber optic faceplates simultaneously transfer the image as it reaches the sensors and protect the CMOS chips from degradation. This protection from radiation extends the lifespan of the sensors, therefore cutting costs for hospitals and radiology centers.
“High quality digital imaging improves the patient experience, and the bottom line,” said Jeff Lowe, Senior Project Manager, Medical at SCHOTT. “With 7 in 10 Americans getting an X-ray each year, fiber optic faceplates allow system manufacturers to design a detector with optimal performance. High-resolution, low-noise faceplates produced by SCHOTT allow doctors to reduce the amount of radiation exposure while still capturing quality images. And because these faceplates protect image sensors from much of the radiation, these devices last for much longer periods of time.”
Faceplates produced by SCHOTT are available in a variety of sizes and shapes, including as large as 430 mm x 430 mm. The faceplates are manufactured with fiber optic elements ranging from as small as 6 microns in diameter to 25 microns or larger.
