Life is one grand adventure full of unique experiences.
Prestigious design prize for glass door system
SCHOTT Termofrost® Smart Access recognized with German Design Award in Gold.
Can buying refrigerated food items at the supermarket become a customer experience? Absolutely! SCHOTT’s frameless glass door system, which opens hands-free when a hand approaches, makes it possible. Its aesthetic presentation and convenient access to food and beverages in refrigeration units also impressed the jury from the German Design Awards 2018 run by the German Design Council: For its excellent product design, SCHOTT Termofrost® Smart Access has recently received the highest distinction – the gold prize – in the “Retail” category. Thanks to motion detection sensors, the innovative door system for refrigerated display cases units not only opens hands-free, but due to its frameless design, it offers customers when closed an unrestricted panoramic view, providing easier orientation when selecting chilled products.
For supermarkets, it is becoming increasingly important to differentiate themselves. This is accomplished through new shop concepts, along with fresh produce and comfort, which, when combined, achieve a feel-good atmosphere and offer customers a unique shopping experience. With this in mind, SCHOTT, NOA Design and food retail giant REWE developed a door system for tomorrow’s refrigeration units. “Our world is rapidly changing. Convenience, efficiency, customer experience and environmental friendliness all shape our day-to-day life, including how we shop,” states Michael Lammel, managing partner at NOA Design, explaining the necessity for newer features for outstanding merchandise presentation in grocery stores. “Unique shop concepts make it easier to increase customer loyality. Due to their ability to save energy, refrigeration units will be an integral component of grocery stores in the very near future. Our automatic glass door system has truly made a breakthrough: providing more comfort and a new visual impact, it generates a positive shopping experience,” added Christian Köhler, head of Food Display at SCHOTT. Currently, numerous retailers across Germany have equipped their stores with SCHOTT Termofrost® Smart Access; further installations are planned.
The German Design Awards’ official prize ceremony takes place in February 2018 at the international trade exhibition ‘Ambiente’ in Frankfurt, Germany. Earlier this year, Smart Access earned an innovation award from AIT Architecture, a leading industry publication, at the retail trade exhibition ‘EuroShop’.
