It is this very challenge that we must confront: Equipping the automobile with features that enable an unforgettable experience – all with the use of light. As conventional, interior lighting is concealed behind dashboards and panels, fiber optic lighting pushes these boundaries and serves as a distinct design feature in itself to set the mood and take you places in style.
Ambient lighting can render an automobile’s space spaceless. Visible lighting in doors, the flooring, and middle consoles creates an entirely new sense of space. Discrete, pure -white lighting encompassed around a large, panoramic roof gives the impression that the roof is hovering above you.
Soft light for a strong impact
SCHOTT has developed fiber optic components specifically for such
lighting concepts. These sidelights are transparent light guides. Fed by
LED light sources, they emit light evenly across the entire length.
This homogeneity is achieved by way of scattering areas, cased in a fiber core and cladding combination. The elegant thing about this solution is that fiber optics only transmit light, without any current, so that they can be handled safely.
Drivers can easily adjust the color themselves – allowing for enhanced
comfort. And stronger differentiation between the car brands.
Next stop: Autonomous lighting
