Where many materials fail, NEXTREMA® rises to the challenge. This glass-ceramic was developed and designed with extreme conditions in mind. With NEXTREMA® SCHOTT offers engineers and designers a unique material portfolio. Choose from six different material types, each of which has its own specific benefits These specific benefits help achieve innovative designs, applications and functionalities with as much precision and customization as possible.

All six NEXTREMA® types have the following properties in common:
  • High temperature resistance. Depending on the type, temperature resistant up to 950 °C
  • (N)extremely durable. Near zero thermal expansion of the glass-ceramic – even under demanding conditions and in challenging environments
  • High resistance to temperature shocks of up to 820 °C
  • Wide transmittance spectrum across the entire wavelength of visible and IR range (e.g. relevant for infrared applications). Protects and filters to varying degrees depending on material type and material thickness
  • High intrinsic mechanical resistance: No additional toughening processes necessary
  • Resistant to chemicals: Resistant to acids (DIN 12116), bases (ISO 695) and hydrolytic influences (DIN ISO 719)
  • Process inertness. No undesirable interactions according to the mentioned properties  between the glass-ceramic and the environment. Even in demanding processes (e.g. relevant in coating processes)
  • Homogeneously colored material. Will not fade, yellow or become discolored over time and under typical use
