Manufacturing Technician Surfacing - 2nd Shift

Our Business Unit Lighting and Imaging offers challenging lighting and image transmission solutions for applications in the markets of automotive, aviation, medical devices, as well as industrial and safety engineering. With production units in Europe, North-America and the worldwide SCHOTT sales organization Lighting and Imaging is a leading supplier for fiber optic components.

Your tasks

The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for coordinating the production of activities and assisting the engineering staff and supervisor in troubleshooting, new product development, writing processes and other tasks as assigned. It will be their responsibility to perform routine machine/equipment maintenance and inspections, troubleshoots, and perform general mechanical repairs. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assists in introducing new products into manufacturing.
  • Assists in troubleshooting equipment, fixtures, tooling and technical issues.
  • Monitors production and adherence to schedules, and monitors and coordinates the flow of material to and from the area.
  • Assists in writing/revising process specs and route sheets.
  • Builds prototype samples and R&D parts.
  • Inspects in process work to ensure quality and to verify proper procedures are being followed.
  • Assists in training less qualified employees.
  • Maintains inventory of parts, tooling, and supplies.
  • Submits work orders for the required tooling to be fabricated/repaired in machine shop and for non-scheduled maintenance and repairs.
  • Assists engineering personnel as required.
  • Suggests improvements in equipment and procedures.
  • Operates with minimal direct supervision.
  • Complies with all safety rules and requirements.
  • Maintains housekeeping practices per departmental 5S program.
  • Able to meet utilization targets and standard times.
  • Accurately enters Database/SAP transactions in the computer.
  • Maintains daily records, including labor sheets and routers.
  • Conducts other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Your profile

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years experience on the job or on a manufacturing field.
  • Good manual dexterity and excellent hand/eye coordination.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written; able to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and to enter data into a computer terminal.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment, troubleshoot and multi-task
  • Good mathematical and mechanical abilities.
  • Ability to effectively lead a group.
  • Knowledge of gauging and measuring equipment.
