Awards for innovative design
Robert Sachon, Head Designer at Robert Bosch Hausgeräte GmbH, talks about innovative design concepts for the kitchen
Please tell us about the benefits you have found through using glass in the design of home appliances?
We like to use glass not only for its excellent technical properties, but also for the effect of depth it can create and for its user-friendly, hygienic surface.
Which features distinguish the design concept of your new, award-winning series?
The new Series 8 built-in appliances feature white and black glass fronts. In this product range, we have combined modern TFT touch technology with the tactile feedback of a mechanical control ring and integrated it into a glass panel. These design elements give us the ultra-modern, high-quality look we want.
What was the main challenge in developing this new look?
In order to integrate the various elements in a glass panel, high precision and extremely demanding glass processing was required. SCHOTT proved to be the perfect partner. With this design, we have successfully combined the simple control of technical processes with digital components. And we have won several awards for our efforts – the German Design Award 2015, iF Awards, the ”Best of Best” category of the Interior Innovation Award and the ”Red Dot: Best of the Best”.
